With their sights set on a third straight Harris Cup MSE is going to be extremely difficult to knock off here. Don’t count out Lawrence however as one more win will set a school record for most wins in a season. I say: MSEMarian (14-10-3) @ Finlandia (17-8-0)Each won two games against the other this season with Finlandia holding a slight 15-13 goal advantage in the contests. After falling just short of the regular season MCHA title Finlandia wants another crack at MSE but they better not overlook a Marian team that holds an eight game winning streak — currently the nation’s longest. 12 & 13 — Lawrence (4-7-2) v. Marian (4-7-1) seriesWith each looking to make a move in the MCHA standings both should be bolstered by recent solid performances against teams from "bigger" conferences. I say: Split; Brad says: SplitFri. 12 — #4 UW-River Falls (12-2-1) @ St. Thomas (5-6-0)Though the Tommies are off to a slow start there is no question they are an extremely well-coached team that is capable of beating anybody on any night… Norbert MSE remains the lone MCHA team to receive votes. With the NCHA continuing play in the MIAC Interlock all eyes fall on the MCHA this week as league play resumes with a couple of huge series. MSE and Finlandia currently first and second in the league respectively clash in their first two meetings of the season. Third place Marian and fourth place Lawrence also get together for the first time this season. MCHA Confidence GrowingLake Forest Gustavus Adolphus St. laf and UW-Superior …… have all fallen victim to a MCHA team this season. Finlandia has been most impressive knocking off St.

At some level that potential will be realized but the NCHA remains primed to put as many as three teams in the NCAA’s. Led by MSE at #20 the MCHA once again lands three teams in the PWR. Finlandia is right behind them at #21 and Lawrence checks in at #32. As mentioned last week these rankings are still incomplete as “record against ranked teams” is not included but they still offer us the best estimations possible in terms of a possible NCAA tournament field. Still a long way to go however but expect the picture to clear itself up as the season winds down. When it does keep checking here as this section will closely track NCAA possibilities as they relate to all teams in the NCHA. This Week In The MCHAAs the grueling 20-game MCHA conference schedule wears on four teams have set themselves apart in the conference standings. MSE holds a two-point lead on second place Finlandia and is still in control of its own destiny. Lawrence and Marian sit a few games back but are only separated by one point for third place but both are playing much better hockey over the past two months. Perhaps the most intriguing story in the league right now is that of Lawrence. Since a surprising sweep of St. laf in early January the Vikings have won eight of nine and currently hold a 10-8-1 overall record reasonably improved from the 7-11 record they held at this point last season.

They will need a similar effort this weekend as they square off in a home and home series with the league leading Raiders. Marian did tie MSE on the road earlier this season before suffering a 4-2 loss at home. Despite their records right now it looks as if the top four in the MCHA are all capable of beating one another. My gut tells me to go with a split but I’m going to say MSE holds court… John’s goalie Adam Hanna for the all-time NCAA Division III lead. Jones has a dandy 56-7-5 record over his two plus years in the Green Knight net. This Week in the MCHAA little over a week ago Finlandia was able to remain one point back of MSE in the standings as they earned a road split with the Raiders. A week later however the Raiders are back on top by three points as Marian claimed their second split of the season against the Lions. Meanwhile Lawrence kept up their winning ways with a sweep of Northland while MSE once again did their part by picking up a sweep over UM-Crookston. As Marian battles to get back in the race after a slow conference start they will be looking to play spoiler this week as it’s their turn to take another shot at MSE. The two met earlier this season with the Raiders coming away with three points.

16 the UW-Eau Claire men’s basketball team earned a 33-point win at non-conference opponent Finlandia University (Mich. ) it’s largest margin of vitory of the season. The second time around at Zorn Arena Finlandia wasn’t so easy for Eau Claire to put away with the Golds winning 75-69. “Any time you play a team twice they’re the most dangerous team” coach Terry Gibbons said. “It doesn’t make a difference where you’re playing them home or away especially if they have any pride and I’ve got to hand it to Finlandia they’ve got a lot of pride. Eau Claire held a 10 to 15-point lead for most of the game but could never quite put the Lions away.
