The Finlandia Men’s Hockey team has received some very good news along with the rest of the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association. The NCAA has announced that the winner of the league’s post season tournament will advance to the Division Three national tournament. Therefore the winner of the Harris Cup will be an automatic qualifier to the D-3 tournament starting next season. Lions’ Head Coach Joe Burcar says the MCHA is now on an even playing field with other conferences that have atuomatic qualifiers or AQs. Finlandia started a men’s hockey program in 1999 and joined the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association in 2004-05.

Finlandia won game one 2-1. Cornerstone committed 4 errors in the game which led to both runs for Finlandia. Jill Peterson hit a solo home run in the 6th inning to put the Golden Eagles on the board but Cornerstone could get any more to the plate and Finlandia won 2-1. Cornerstone came back in the second game of the double header to defeat Finlandia 3-2 to earn the split.
