Sydney Morning Herald
–> Danny John June 12 2009 – 10:08AM Troubled beverages group Foster’s has brought in a 20-year veteran of the international drinks industry to try to turn around its beleagured wine division. David Dearie has been poached from the US drinks company Brown Forman where he was most recently managing director of its Western Europe and Asian division. Brown Forman which is based in Kentucky is best known for its Jack Daniels whiskey brands Southern Comfort bourbon and Finlandia vodka. It also has a host of wine operations including Bel Arbor Michel Picard and Five Rivers. Mr Dearie 47 is from the UK where he started his career in 1986 with one of the county’s then-oldest brewing companies Whitbread. From there he moved to the trading company Inchape which had a large presence in Asia and subsequently joined Brown Forman in 1997 first as regional vice president for its central European business and then worked his way up through its wine operations to his latest role. It will be Mr Dearie’s job to re-invigorate Foster’s wine business which has been a drag on the group since its ill-fated acquisition of the Southcorp operations.

Fans clash in the streets before game
Helsingin Sanomat
The two sides each provoked the other and succeeded in stirring things up according to Juha Hänninen of the Helsinki Police Department. The game ended at arouind 22:30 and by midnight the police had not had any reports of any major post-match skirmishes since the Finns seemed unwilling to look for trouble on the back of a defeat that left little to complain about. Hundreds of riot police were deployed and a Border Guard helicopter hovered overhead. Those who were taken away were herded into a Helsinki City Transport bus parked by the National Museum. The flares and fireworks that were tossed in the lympic Stadium itself will probably prove costly to the Finnish FA. Apparently the Austrian referee went over to the touchline at one point and had a word with officials to the effect that if it didn’t stop he could abandon the entire proceedings.
